Alphas
These two animals are dominant over all the other canines in the pack. The alpha male and female are the only ones that breed and produce pups in the pack unless granted permission, and they also get to eat first at kills. These are ultimately the ruling force.
Betas
The beta pair are second in command after the alphas. These are animals that the alphas trust deeply to follow the rules that they have set, and to enforce them. In the absence of the alphas the betas are in the leadership role. If the alpha pair die or become too old the betas typically take over.
Guards
The guards are a warrior with a special title. They are typically assigned to the alphas and betas. They are personal body guards to the two high ranking pairs. They are generally chosen by selecting the best warriors the pack has to offer.
Spies
During times of tension between a pack and another group spies are often used to seek information about the intentions of the enemy. The high ranking members may also employ them to investigate those within the pack when betrayal or another crime is possible.
Warriors
Warriors are the most skilled of fighters within the pack. They are typically the strongest, fiercest, and most agile animals. They are first into battle protecting the remaining pack members.
Hunters
The hunters' responsibility is to provide meals for the pack. In packs with only one or two hunters they generally will lead the pack into a hunt. They are skilled in tracking and taking down large game.
Healers
Healers take care of the wounded within the pack. They know in detail aspects of herbal care, where to find needed ingredients to make their medicines. Typically there is only one or two healers in a group.
Den Sitter
Though many may think of this position as boring it may be one of the most vital. These canines care for the young while other members are fighting, hunting, or going on with their day to day lives. They are a main source of knowledge for the future generations.
Subordinates
Many juveniles and new members will take this position. These are canines that are not particularly skilled in one area and participate in all parts of pack life. This is a spot they hold while sharpening their skills in their chosen pack career.
Omegas
The omega is the lowest position within the pack. This is the pack's punching bag. Generally an animal in this position is put there for a reason, whether they are nearly unworthy of being a part of a pack, weak, or they are criminal. This canine relieves tensions within the pack, and often sends the pack into play mode when it is most needed.
Apprentice
When a juvenile or young canine has decided what position they wish to hold they may apprentice under those skilled in the field. All positions other than alpha, beta, and omega may have apprentices. This allows the young animal to be ready for a leading role in the position that they are studying for.
