The History...
A natural separation upon the island of Diripio had always made it easy to keep hidden the full size of the lands. Until this day the canines roam without much question as to what is on the other side of the fog smudged Vetis Canyon. Occasionally an argument is brought up between dogs...maybe it's just the canyon, perhaps the ocean meets the other edge, and a few believe there's something mysterious occurring on the other side. None of dared to make the dangerous cross of the fissure within the earth and lived to tell of what they've found. Most die of starvation or dehydration on their trek through the steamy earth. Never would they have guessed the truth. Two individual civilizations had lived on the east and west sides of Diripio during the human reign, and still to this day unique societies thrive.
The West...
Abuse, slavery, family, or friends? The reply to what the humans were like, what shoes they filled, would vary greatly between canines on the Western realm of Diripio. Those who had grown tired of the abusive nature of many of the villagers had steadily grown in numbers over the years. It was soon to end. The general canine population was happy and content with their two legged keepers. Working day in and day out, tossed a scrap for dinner, and if lucky they got shelter to slumber within. While they meandered through their days they were blind to the silent mob growing daily right under their noses. Very few had overheard of what happened in the shadows of the forest. Erida, a doberman owned by a severe man, had began to organize her own form of an army. Those who spoke of such gatherings were automatically labeled as insane. Erida's word traveled through the winds of the wilderness gathering canines of other species to assist in the goal. The goal of Extermination. With no opposition it was a simple process. Groups of once slaves, and the wild canines that had to fear their lives every time man entered the forest slipped like shadows into the quiet huts. Demolishing every human that breathed upon the island in only a single midnight hour. There was little to stop them, most dogs asleep out with the flocks, or damned to the outdoors to seek shelter for the night.
There was no hope for the humans. The demoness and her pack of revengeful canines called the bipeds lucky. At least they didn't' have to be enslaved , beaten, thrown away, or hunted before their deaths. The canines worked quick and efficiently. With the human population demolished three packs began to mold. Most involved in the tirade followed Erida willingly, many calling her their savior forming the Metnal Pack. While those who were not involved in the attack mourned the loss of their owners and joined together to create the Elysian pack. Some of each side wandered alone, some in shock and some unsure of their next course. The Barzakh Pack was formed by some of these neutral wanders only a month after the slaughter. Now the canines rule the land, and the separation of wild and domestic dog has blurred.
The East...
The stories in Dakehl Village spoke of a horrid pack of wolves roaming the woods that would snatch any child or adult that dared wonder the wilderness alone. Not only did a great fear develop for the wild canines of the forests, but they were completely inaccurate. Humans from a more advanced society had discovered the east of Diripio when searching for the perfect, secluded area to test their new technologies. A laboratory was erected in the once serene landscape and a large fence was spread along the borders preventing escape of the animals and the small clan of humans that called the wilderness home. With them the newcomers brought many canines, mostly strays or stolen pets, from their home land. With the natives from the east and their own domestic dogs wiped out they set out to setting traps and capturing the dogs and people of the Dakehl Village.
Nobody was sure what was going on behind the walls of wood and nails. All that was certain by those on the outside was there were screams of canine and human alike nightly as the experiments were pursued. Those tortured within the walls knew all too well the plan of the invaders. Humans were weak, dogs were unable to communicate or have the intelligence to do what humans could. What type of race could be created by combining the two? The plan for an ultimate canine/human shifting race was the goal of those in their white lab jackets. Many people and dogs died in the testing, never did one become just what the scientists had hoped. That is until one hopeful test went completely wrong. A new concoction was developed, offering high hopes to the white suited humans. Yet with the mixture came a horrible explosion transforming all within the building into what they believed was a success. Humans and canines were combined, both minds, emotions, and memories invading the same brain and soul. Yet, shifting was not a capable feat as was planned. They were humans trapped in a canine body. Not only was the building, and canines left behind but so were remnants of chemical mixtures. Any creature coming into contact with these chemicals had a large chance of developing strange powers.
The lead scientists were swiftly killed by the newly created animals for what they had done to them. It was slow to happen, but eventually two groups formed over the eastern half of the island. Many were made bitter by the torture they had endured. They wandered as loners for some time before giving into the canine instinct to form a pack. The Tartarus Pack was formed wandering the hallways of the abandoned laboratory and the desolate lands surrounding the building of torment. Their attitudes and the lands seemed to be nearly one in the same...empty and broken down. While not happy with what had happened many other canines were able to let the past be just that. They retreated to the mountains and forests eventually forming the Henka Pack. Several others chose the life as a loner. There has never been any conflict between the groups, yet they tend to avoid each other.
The Future...
It is only a matter of time before one half of the island discovers the other. Only an opportunity to cross the canyon is needed. When will they finally meet? How will they get on? Which side will have the upper paw if battle is pursued, the engineered possibly unusually powerful canines or those with more experience with their bodies?
...Only you can decide...
