It seemed that she had been wandering aimlessly for her entire life. Indeed she was, for all of the life she was aware of. Small, dainty paws touched lightly upon the ground that was slightly crisped with the autumn night that was soon to fall. The last of the sun's rays were spread like a crown of orange and yellow across the earth. They climbed like vines over the wooden grave markers, that were etched carefully in human scribble with the names of those who had fallen in the past. A strange way to remember and celebrate the lives of those who had passed into the unknown. The twilight lighting gave an eerie iridescent glow to the lean fae as if she had belonged in the Forest of Spirits, or was a beautiful demon here to haunt the graveyard in Sekhmet's name. A thick, white pelt seemed to dance upon the light breeze, the wind's fingers gently pulled tresses away from her form. Two triangular soldiers stood at attention upon her skull, cautiously swiveling to take in any strange noises. Caela was much more attentive to her surroundings now that she had entered her new life, unsure of everything and everyone and naive at the same time. The icy blue oculars set within her feminine canvas told a tale, a tale of confusion and grief.
Where was she now? Who would she happen upon? And most of all would she find herself? The questions were endless, constantly invading her mind. Refusing to allow the wolfess to rest. The only thing she was sure of in regards to these lads was the fact that it held a stale scent of death. Death of many. A ruby muscle slipped from her maw, running course along her jawline in a nervous reaction, although part of her ached to see death...for food. The sides of her chest expanded and contracting forcing a light sigh from her nares before allowing gravity to push her lightly back upon her haunches. A full plume wrapped itself around her body, laying upon her small paws. Several wrinkles etched themselves into a plush forehead as she gazed over the darkening lands. Yet another day she had forgot to hunt until it was too late. Too many others and things on her mind.

There she was. So real that he could smell her from a hundred yards away clear as day. He let his tongue roll out of his mouth slowly and watched her intently. Nuke could feel the excitement welling inside his bones as she neared the basket beside the door. Hardly able to contain himself now, his feet danced around in circles as she reached down and picked out a toy. When the red stained horse hair rope came into view, that was it. Nuke let out a rather high pitched bark and spun in a circle. She reared back to throw the mangled hand crafted rope toy. Everything seemed in slow motion now. He watched her lean forward, about half way through her throw when the large dog lept out of the foliage behind her and knocked her to the ground. The toy landed short, right in front of Nukes paws. Still stained red, only now with blood. He couldn't bare to look up as he heard the flesh ripping from her bones.
Nuke gasped as his eyes fluttered open. His head jerked around nervously, eyes darting everywhere. Seemed like an eternity before he could relax and slow his heart rate. Another nightmare. He had been plagued with them since the night of the attack on the humans. He couldn't imagine them ending until he had his revenge.
He shook his head and huffed at himself. 'What an amazing place to fall asleep', he thought sarcastically as he looked around the darkening graveyard. It didn't take long for him to notice the white Fae wolf mix. She was strikingly beautiful, he noted. He watched her cross the graveyard and rest herself. Nuke didn't move, just stared for a moment at her. She had positioned herself mere feet from him but he wasn't surprised she hadn't noticed. Her mind was obviously elsewhere. She seemed lost in her own thoughts and Nuke knew how dangerous that could be sometimes. He decided to let his presence be known before she realized he was watching her.
"Boo.", he said quietly without getting up. He watched her reaction with a slight smirk on his face. What a perfect introduction to one less than perfect landscape.

Lost. It seemed to be the main word to describe the angelic fae, both physically and mentally. She refused to consider herself as such while she wandered aimlessly through the island. Exploration, site seeing, adventure, surveying, investigating, and the explanations went on and on as to why she hadn't settled, hadn't had a real purpose. Since the one brute who claimed he knew where she belonged had vanished one evening, leaving her alone in the make shift den chiseled into the canyon walls she had given up hope of learning of her past. It wouldn't be real now either way. A new name, and new memories all led to a new life. "Caela" he had named her, auds angled back wondering what her name may have been prior to that first interesting encounter. It seemed that as much as she tried not to care about the past she could not help but speculate about her prior life. Was she a loner? A queen? Or maybe she was just the filth of some pack?
Baby blue orbs narrowed slightly as her finely crafted tiara lowered to even with her sloping shoulders. The determination to create a new life that ate at her soul pulled her from her day dream. Her senses just began to hone into her surroundings once more as a quiet voice jolted her back to reality faster than expected, "Boo." Her rear end barely lifted from the ground as slender limbs spun her swiftly to face the stranger. A cloud of pulverized, rotting vegetation mixed with sand formed behind her as rear claws pierced the earth's hide for stability. The powder soft pelt along her shoulders rose, nerves causing each follicle to contract lifting one hair at a time to their full height. Triangular receptors plastered against her skull while the skin lining her maw rose to flash bone crunching fangs at the dog. A devilish snarl gurgled between clenched enamels, her plume elevating to it's full height.
A devil in angels clothing perhaps? Besides for the warning growls stabbing through the atmosphere the fae stood silently waiting. Her muscles tensed, pulling her closer to the terra to offer the wolfess a better position to strike in defense. From the appearance of the beauty it would not be imaginable that she was indeed a peaceful creature. The diversified emotions flooding her veins had put the fae on the defense much quicker then one of her past would have ever thought possible, the confusion and loneliness that slowly devoured her mind. Even now, she would never strike first, however would not back away until an explanation was offered deserved or not.

A thousand different reactions of his own raced through his mind. Perhaps he should have thought this out more. But what did he really expect? He startled a lone wolf mix while she was in deep thought in the middle of a graveyard. He held his smirk when she turned to face him but it quickly vanished from his long muzzle when she bared her teeth and continually growled that stomach churning sound in his direction. Nuke stayed where he was, his belly still touching the dry ground, but his sudden anxiety couldn't be more obvious despite his efforts to hold it back and appear brave. His entire body flinched as his ears laid back, then pointed forward, then back again. Eyes wide and muscles tense, ready to bolt if she came closer.
But she didn't move. Yes, she was still baring those impeccable teeth. Still making that awful sound that would bring any weak dog to it's knees, but she wasn't moving to him. This sudden realization relaxed him slightly. She wasn't intending on attacking first. And Nuke wasn't intending on attacking at all. He still thought it best to keep his distance and try to talk her down.
Nuke slowly rose from his horizontal position and rested on his haunches. Extremely focused on not giving any wrong signs, he breathed slowly to relax his nerves and steady his body. She really had given him a spook. More than he originally thought. "Hey, whoa.. hold on. I was just kidding around. I'm not gonna hurt you. Hell, look at you. You could take me down in a second anyway, ya?", he chuckled. Nuke bowed his head deeply to the fae. With his head remaining low, he glanced up at her almost playfully."Nuke. If you were wondering. I would say that it's a pleasure to meet your acquaintance, but so far, I'd be lying.". With that, he smirked and winked at her. Hoping he had shown the pretty lady that he meant no harm whatsoever.

There she was, at it again. Heat burned through the intricate webbing of arteries and veins as the brute's posture became obvious. Her frightening? Never in her dreams did she even stop to think about such an idea. Never had she truly needed to be such. Yet it seemed that her natural instincts were much stronger then ever with a heightened sense of urgency when any sign of danger might flutter across her path. She was quite jumpy and seemed to turn into a feminine version of Mr Hyde without much prompting nowadays. Her radars pushed forward, every movement seeming to be in complete slow motion. The wrinkles that had etched themselves deep within the bridge of her nose faded, alabaster lips sheathing her most valuable weaponry. The crystalline gaze continued to lock upon his features still wary, and oddly blank. Her eyes held nothing, simply emptiness.
As the domestic male rose to his haunches she leaned back upon hers, muscles seeming to relax to a normal state once more, although it were obvious she was more than prepared for anything thrown her way. The snarls were replaced with the rise and fall of her rib cage, her breaths short and nearly silent as the adrenaline high began to wear. The creases that were once upon her maw now shifted to her brow in curious fashion, auds pushing forward to their fullest extent as the dog's voice filled them. As he completed his introduction they quickly fell backward, her crown lowering slightly as the heat of embarrassment rose once more within her, scorching her muscles and twisting her stomach. If it weren't for the thick, snow hued pelt a pink flush surely would be noticeable.
The sweetest, most innocent of notes chimed in response hesitantly, "I-I apologize. That was most rude of me, Nuke. You simply....startled me." Dual pools of light blue washed over the area around them, quickly surveying before returning to watch his canvas. Her skull fell slightly off balance as she watched with an almost puppish curiousity. "I am know as," she paused as she considered whether she should simply find a new name again or keep the one appointed to her by that irritating rogue, "Caela". A small smile grew along her maw, it was an awkward smile as if to reassure him or maybe even herself, "Do you venture here often?" And Dr Jekyll had returned.

A deep sigh of relief escaped his lips when the fae placed herself on the ground and all signs of anything frightening left her face. He had never been one for confrontation and most of his life had avoided all other canines at all costs. Too much drama and competition to be on top for him. He was entirely too happy with his life to be bothered with such foolishness. Although now with the humans gone, he felt that he soon would have no other choice but to join in on the ranks if he were ever planning on living somewhat of a normal life. He knew interactions were crucial in a attempt to keep his own mind sane from the nightmares he was plagued with daily.
He raised his head and tilted it ever so slightly, ears perked and forward as the fae spoke. Her voice was extremely soft. Not the kind of voice he expected with the ferocity she had recently shown him she possessed. He grinned to himself at first. Although he didn't mean to spook her, hearing the confirmation come from her made a little proud that he had such an effect on her. Caela paused slightly when she spoke her own name. Nukes eyes flicked from her as his mind drifted for a moment on if she could be lying to him. But as quickly as they left her face, his eyes were back on her. He would give her the benefit of the doubt and assume she had no hidden agendas behind her icy eyes.
When she asked the question, his ears went back against his skull for a split second before bouncing back up to their original position as he turned his head to look out over the graveyard. The sky was nearly black now but the bright moon lit up every grave marker and gave them that iridescent glow that so many humans feared. His eyes slitted and his brow furrowed as he thought about his human. How he wished she was here. He found it hard to visit his own home now knowing her remains were left without regard inside, disintegrating to the floor of the hut. He came here to mourn her. Pretending one of the unmarked graves under the large willow tree was in fact hers. His head shook suddenly trying to escape his own thoughts. Still peering out over the yard he replied to Caela.
"You could say that. I figure that the ones who dispised humans wouldn't set a foot on the land that is used to mourn their departure. A safe haven, perhaps.". Although this wasn't the main reason he visited this place, he refused to let her know that. Afraid of being seen as weak. That was something he couldn't risk around unknown canines. He glanced back in Caelas direction and tried to smile although it only came off as a jagged smirk.

Although both canids were now calmly resting on the cooling loam there still seemed to be a thickened atmosphere surrounding the pair. One walking through would automatically assume there was a conflict, tension weighing down upon any who passed. Yet it was something different, and much deeper and more dangerous. Not dangerous to the outside world, or even to the two who conversed here among the deceased. A danger to their minds. And oddly enough the danger was themselves. Each allowing the past to eat away at their sanity in one form or another. Furry brows stitched together as she noted the almost unnoticeable shift of his gaze at her hesitation when offering her name. The creamy fae allowed his thoughts to continue without interruption. It was obvious to her that there was something on his mind, although he hid it quite well. Knowing the torment that she felt day in and day out Caela was not one to pry.
When his attention suddenly snapped back to the present moment her gentle smile grew along her slender maw, head tilting slightly as he offered the reason for her being here. His words about the human slaughter suddenly pulled at a file within her mind, pulling a memory crashing down. "There's a war going on out there, or about to start. I can't let you wander around in your state during this," the rogue had told her the same night of his disappearance. Her aqua hued ice stayed locked upon the side of Nuke's face, though she was not seeing him now. Was the one she had wandered with part of the extermination? Was that what he was trying to protect her from? The demoniacally handsome male she had once known flashed before her eyes, the sly smirk pulling her heart strings as he warned her of what he really was under the dashing features. Slowly he faded into the night, his figure disintegrate into nothingness leaving the domesticated mix before her. Her smile was weak now as she realized that she may have been involved in the plan to kill the humans in some backward fashion. One thing she would leave hidden from this new male. A gentle sigh pushed it's way out from her nares, her head bobbing once in agreement, "yes, it seems it would be an unlikely place for them to travel, no?" Her mind was tumbling over itself as she wondered if her reaction seemed odd after his explanation for being here.
After being alone for so long she didn't want to be assumed a liar and push her company away. Her mind almost needed the companionship in order to maybe ease the suffering even if it was only for a moment. Paws lifted and fell in place, shifting herself uncomfortably. "Caela...it's not really my name," she blurted suddenly. A desperate attempt at honesty, an attempt to keep him here longer. Aquamarine gems dropped to view the earth below as she continued, "I...I'm not really sure what my real name is. Another offered me the one I gave you, and it has stuck for the last year," she paused once more thinking through the last 12 months, "well, it stuck in my mind anyway." A teasing expression flitted across her features, poking some innocent fun at herself.

He was finding it unbearably hard to focus on the fae. Trying his best to not let his mind slip into the past so often was even harder while he was in the one place he specifically came to remember. When he shifted his gaze back to her after speaking, her eyes looked through him for a moment. Lost in her own thoughts again just as he had been. Did she even know about the humans? Considering she was part wolf, she could have very well had minimal information on them. A picture of her aiding in the attacks flicked into his mind, but he refused to trail it with real thought. She seemed too kind to be involved in such evils. Not to mention that she seemed lost within her own mind. Confused.
When she spoke, his thoughts were cut short, not allowing him to make assumptions on her story. While he was musing over a reply, she started to stir and shift uncomfortably. Upon seeing this, his attention became fully focused on her. Every imagination or memory washed from his skull and for that moment, even though he didn't quite realize it, he felt free. Nukes brows furrowed, worrisome, and his head tilted ever so slightly. The questioning nearly escaped his lips when she spoke again.
Letting out a sigh and a chuckle almost simultaneously, he bowed his head and looked at the ground, lightly shaking it. Relieved that her sudden anxiousness wasn't something more sinful. He realized his reaction to her name must have been more obvious than he intended. With his head still bowed, he flicked his gaze back up to her icy blue eyes as a mischievous smirk began to form across his muzzle.
"My name isn't Nuke either." He started, playfully. "Well, no.. I'm lying.. it is. But what's the harm in starting over? Your name is yours to choose, no one elses. Same as your future." Raising his head as he finished, his mischievous smirk vanished but a warming smile was replaced. He was never able to express true pitty, but he had hoped that he had come off somewhat understanding. He pulled his weight back to the ground and crossed his front paws before speaking again. "So... are you still Caela?" , he asked without thinking. A wince quickly formed on his face and he turned his head as he stumbled into the darkness of his own mind again, questioning himself. Had he just implied that she forget the only past she knew? He stumbled harshly into his next words in hopes to erase any offense he might have laid on her. "Either way, I like it.... Caela. It suits you." |
As he whispered her name under his breath, he adverted his attention back towards her and nodded once, slowly. What he didn't mention is that it seemed to suit her because the name itself sounded as lost and innocent as she appeared to be standing before him. [/blockquote]

A gentle smile pulled her white lips taut in amusement as his joking words filtered within her auds. It was a relief to have one who did not judge, or make a huge deal of her circumstance. This mixed breed was definitely a breath of fresh air. A light hearted giggle escaped the phantom in response, "I suppose we can stick with Caela. I'm afraid I would know not a better name." The wolven skull lowered as she poked fun at herself along side him, her plume tightening around her forepaws. A few long intakes of oxygen were taken, the scents being sorted and deciphered without much effort. She had picked up something odd on the wind as it passed between the pair of canids causing her furry brows to stitch together in interest. It was as if an invisible force tugged at the femmora, pulling her to her paws.
She danced lightly around the brute, continuously pulling in his scent in short bursts of air like she didn't quite believe what had been offered to her by the breeze a moment earlier. Other than the curious expression nothing else had changed upon the alabaster wolfess, her body was relaxed, tail hanging idly between two pointed hocks. Dainty paws grew roots as she rounded to his other side, tiara tilting slightly off balance. "You....you're a loner?" The question seemed almost as if it were an accusation as it slipped between a pursed maw. Back to her haunches she plopped within his shadow staring blankly, "You don't seem the type." The "type" was what she had encountered previously in the only loner she had known...a snake in wolf's clothing. This one seemed too kind, too peaceful for such a status. Suddenly her nose wrinkled distastefully, "And pardon me, but you do bare a very watered down stench of human." The displeasure with the scent was apparent by the look of disgust upon her features. She had meant no harm, not realizing what a dog would have gone through in the recent events. She simply assumed that he had made some sort of habit of wandering too close to the village.

A smile widened across his face as Caela giggled before him. Taking in a breath and releasing a silent sigh of relief that he hadn't offended her, he allowed his tongue to loll out for a few quick pants before bringing it back into his mouth and stretching his paws out in front of him, ready to move on to another topic. He wasn't sure how well she took the light laughter at her ordeal and he wasn't even sure if he could show her any real remorse now.
When her expression changed and she began rounding him, he quickly licked his muzzle and moved his body to follow her easily with his eyes, focused. His brow cocked slightly and Nuke tilted his head when the sudden apparent accusation escaped her lips. A short chuckle came from his throat, ready to answer her. It was stopped short when she continued without waiting for his response, and once again he focused on her words intently, watching her tongue move as she spoke them.
Everything seemed to move in slow motion as Nuke watched the obvious disgust cross her face after she had spoken her final words. With no real control over himself, his mind reeled as his stomach felt as if it were six feet under the ground he was laying on. Blood seemed to fill his eyesight while his claws dug into the earth below him, trying to focus the sudden burst of anger towards it.
A low growl came from his chest, only for a moment when he snapped at her with his first words His gaze could have burnt a hole through her, but he remained positioned on his stomach as he spoke. Almost calmly aside from the first snap he offered her. "I'd much rather have the watered down stench of a human than smell of nothing but myself as you do. You have been lonely far longer than I have."
Once the last word escaped his breath, he turned his head from her, settling his gaze on the dirt in front of him with his ears laid back. He fumed silently to himself as his brows furrowed. Nuke had always been able to shrug off things like this, he hated conflict, and he wasn't sure what had really come over him. It was all as if he watched himself snap at the fae without any say in his own mind, he turned from her not out of anger, but out of embarrassment of himself and his previous actions.

Triangular radars slowly began to edge themselves backward toward her skull as the expression upon her company's face transformed. Had she said something out of line? Her mind played over what she had asked and couldn't quite understand why he would be upset with her. A worried wrinkle creased her brow, crystalline orbs rounding in a multitude of emotions. A feminine skull lowered to shoulder level, falling off balance as she quietly watched him, auds now plastered against the fae's skull. His words were calm on the surface yet held hidden daggers cutting through her soul painfully. Her chin pulled into her chest, sky blue oculars slipping to the left, focusing on the distance a soft whine escaping her jaws.
Caela held the silence for several moments as she considered what could have been said to change the brute's disposition so quickly. A broken apology was offered to Nuke finally, "I...I'm sorry that I upset you." Confrontation was not something she was fond of and was quite uncomfortable when presented with it. A moist tongue dabbed the side of her maw nervously before continuing, "M-maybe I should be off." The purely hued wolfess quickly rose to her paws once more the carefree persona obviously drained through the slow, trudging steps as she weaved around the closest grave marker.
