Espionage was looking for trouble. It was clear from the way she stalked along with her head lowered and her gleaming green and gold eyes narrowed. Her paws struck the ground lightly, but that did not lighten her appearance. A nearly physical aura of frustration hung heavily in the air around her. The mist that was characteristic to these woods added to the dark mood. It whispered in and around Espi's black and brown coat, leaving small droplets of moisture to cling frantically at the wolf dog hybrid's silky coat.
Espi snorted and stopped short. An odd scent met her nostrils, one that was of moss and dark, dank areas, but held a strange sort of added property. Espi sniffed deeply, her sharp green eyes flickering over the surrounding trees and undergrowth. Though the plant life was scattered sparsely, the heavy mist obscured nearly everything but Espi's immediate surroundings. Having nothing better to do, the little wolf dog pursued the odd scent, tracing it to a tree. Moments after locating a large rock to launch off of, Espi was in the tree. Her light paws found easy purchase on the rough bark, and in no time, she was back on the trail. Of what, though? Espi was determined to find out. She scrambled from branch to branch, the scent fading no matter what direction she went.
The frustrated canine snarled in irritation. She had found something to do, and then it was lost, the scent taken from her by the soullessly whispering wind and the pressing mist it carried. She bounded down a limb, and finding secure purchase, she crouched down, swinging her tail to balance herself. Then she began to slowly walk along the branch, away from the safe thickness the branch had where it connected to the trunk of the tree. Suddenly, the branch broke with a sickening snap. Espi plummeted several feet before alighting on another branch. With unrivaled speed, she sprang forward, her legs stretched out as she aimed for the next tree. She landed rightly enough, but the bark was smoother here, and the mist had coated it to a slick texture. Espi's paws slipped, and she desperately tried to hook her front legs around the branch. Then she fell. Less controlled this time. Espi flailed, breaking several smaller branches. She landed with a huff as the air was harshly forced out of her lungs. She lay there for a moment, draped in an ungainly fashion over the branch. Then with an upset snap of her teeth, she scrambled back on to the secure base of the branch. The canine settled down to wait, her moment of action temporarily satisfying her need for adventure. Now she would stay perfectly still and hope that an unsuspecting prey animal or pack member would pass underneath of her. Then she could drop down and give them the scare of their lives. Espi's jaws opened slightly, revealing her teeth in a wolfy grin at the thought.
