Towering ribs of rotting wood, the sway of stringy green hanging like some unorthodox spiders web casting eerie shadows against the brief splash of the dusk kissed sands. Over the lapping waves that bright ball of light hung half hidden, setting the skies aflame with golds and oranges. To most it might have been one of those moments, the type that makes you believe in the impossible. But the beauty fell on metaphorically blind eyes.
Away from the pack, away from the prying eyes of another living creature a New Guinea Singing Dog remained hidden amid the wreck of a human ship. It had been one of these types of man made objects that had brought her into this hellish life in the first place. So why did she see refuge in such a place? Maybe it was the hope to remember who she'd been when life was carefree. To remember that brief period in time in which happiness had existed, when kindness, and friendship hadn't been a foreign emotion.
Even now after the humans destruction of themselves life had not gained much of anything for this canine. With a broken spirit, and a shattered heart Kahlua simply existed. The only time she felt any kind of sense of who she'd been before was in the midst of a hunt. With blood pumping and attention completely focused on the task at paw, there was no room for self doubt, and fear. No in those blessed moments she ran on complete instinct, forgetting all else.
It was a hunting trip that brought the solitary canine so far from her borders, that and a need to get away from the falsehoods she constantly saw, whether they in fact existed or not. To her mind everyone was out to get her, one way or another. That's what the whole of her life had lead her to believe, and nothing would ever change. She'd come to terms with it long ago, simply going and doing as she was told. Nothing else in life mattered...
That amber form coiled tightly upon itself as a lonesome whine escaped blacken jaws. The fire of those gems firmly closed, lost within her minds eye, within the nightmares of her dreams.

Day was slowly morphing into night, the sky splattered with hues of blood and fire. The crimson and orange paint reaching uselessly toward the indigo backdrop in an attempt to keep alight. The darkness was inevitable. Latte found it rather coincidental that so many changes occurred along with the rising and setting of the blazing sun. Only days ago her change was that of confusion, a black slate of emptiness. By day she was herself, happy and playful with all she met, but her nightly memories were completely lost. Only very recently had she realized that the blackness that both literally and figuratively filled her evenings were caused by the protection of her own mind. The mind that continued to fight the battle of good versus evil without Latte ever realizing such a war raged within her head. The young pitbull's mind was weakening, that of the other becoming stronger and stronger by the hour.
The other needed practice controlling this new body. He forced those lengthy pillars into motion across the natural debris that littered the forests of the island until oval paws sunk into the tan sands of the beach. Millions of grains shifted, engulfing the fae's appendages as if urging her to stay, attempting to trap her upon the very edge on which she stood. Why or how she found this particular place was unknown to Latte, despite her awareness of the alter ego that had implanted himself within her mind. The parasite that embedded itself into the folds of her brain was controlling all senses, nares pulling in the scent of one of her closest friends. The aroma of the New Guinea Singing dog yanking the pitbull along her trail, her own paw steps falling directly upon where Kahlua had stepped a short time prior.
A leanly muscled bodice paused several feet from the rotting wood pile, gravity gently pushing her back upon her haunches causing a sea of sand to scatter away from the pressure. Over-sized receptors stood to their ridiculously full height, the one feature that would categorize the fae as "cute" rather then "beautiful". She could care less about either truth be told. Love was not something that was in the forefront of the bulldog bitch's mind. A piercing gaze clasped upon the ship, examining the craft as it lay upon it's earthen burial grounds. The reasoning for Kahlua being here rather then home was tossed around between one mind and the other, the history, no matter how short it was, she had with the fellow female being sucked away by the nasty insect within. Hunting....Alone Time...they were both the most likely of reasons if not slightly both. It was rare the other dog was seen doing anything except for hunting or lounging in her own little world.
The seemingly bi-polar dog's optics transferred from the wreck that engulfed her target to the small island that was easily accessible at low tide. A small smile interrupted the straight laced expression upon her boxed maw as the waves crashed forward only to recede further away from their original resting place, leaving behind a dark, nearly black, tint to the terra. A dark, pink muscle slipped from it's moist cavern dabbing either side of her maw in an attempt to force the saliva to flow once more and loosen her vocals. Just as the tongue retreated the usual voice laced with an abundance of energy bounced toward the ship, "Kahlua? Are you there?" She could use an experienced hunter to teach her a thing or two.

A sole triangled twin flickered at the sound of her name, it was a voice she recognized as belonging to a creature who might have been the only being alive that might be considered a friend to the broken fae. As if that skull weighed a ton it slowly lifted from its nest of course amber allowing the whispery timid tones to rise. "I am, Latte." There were times when that voice held a shadow of who and what she might have been but those instances were regulated solely to when her focus was completely on the hunt.
From the depths of the wrecks interior the glimmer of banked coals could be seen, the only sign that a life truly did lay within. A faint flicker of curiosity might have been detected should one look close enough. After all why was the den sitter so far from the safety of the pack borders? It was that spark that managed to bring the compact frame into motion. She was neither slender nor bulky, but in fact lay somewhere between the two. Agility and small bursts of speed made her a very apt hunter.
Slowly from the rotting ribs that fox like skull emerged, pausing but a heartbeat to allow the tarnished gold of her gaze to adjust to the light before seeking out the bulldogs obsidian touched ivory form. A broad short muzzle parted as she spoke with those quiet shy vocals. "What are you doing way out here?" There was something to be said about the New Guinea Singing Dog, she didn't beat around the bush when she wanted to know something.

As the familiar voice echoed off of the old wooden shell a sly smirk pulled at charcoal tiers. Her frame rose careful steps being taken after each long stride completed it's course. She really wanted to just go hunting, why was their such violence coursing wildly through her veins as each note of Kahlua's voice hit the pitbull's oversized receptors? The curiosity of the feelings vibrating within her nerves was pushed aside as she approached the side of the mangled ship. As if a mask were placed upon her face features lit with the youthful excitement that the real Latte often carried every where she ventured. A broad muzzle thrust within an opening of the ship a deep inhale of the aromas being held within the wooden frame.
Wrinkles creased the young dog's forehead as the question of her presence was asked, and without missing a beat she replied cheerily, "stories of prey." Her tail began to whip to and fro as a rounded gaze fell upon the small nearby island that was now easily accessible with the receding waters. "Over there! There's suppose to be GIANT hogs!" The thought of wrestling with a huge boar sent chills of excitement shimmying down her spine. Her body was lifted quickly onto muscular hind limbs, front paws and head jerking through the opening once more. "Have you seen them? Have you heard the stories? Do you want to go?" Truth be known the last question was the only one that truly mattered.
